"Mario Adventure!" by Aurarus Place Review

Mario Adventure!

by Aurarus
Genre: Platformer/Obby

Starting area with the Mario Castle

We've all probably picked up the famous "Super Mario Brothers" game at some point in our lives. And most of us who played it have found it to be extremely intriguing, challenging, memorable, and fun. It's platforming and action even left some of us with a bit of nostalgia, waiting to be fulfilled by either a new Mario game, or (since we all love Roblox) a Roblox obstacle course.

Great atmosphere makes puzzles seem way more enjoyable
This game borrows some of the design, character and atmospheric elements from the various Mario games, from "Super Mario Bros." to "Mariocart." Through out the levels, the attempt at creating a Mario-like obstacle course in Roblox can be seen. The looks of the levels are, for the most part, authentic and detailed. The creator really took the time to investigate many Mario assets in the real games for details to bring into this game. With the exception of the maze levels, the background surrounding the actual obstacle feels very brilliant and fulfilling; a tree or two and some mountains help create a feeling of a large world when the obstacle is in reality really small and linear. Overall though, this game differs a lot from the other obstacle courses by actually providing some buildings besides the actual challenges.

Greatly unique level designs
Having only atmosphere though, does not make a game any good if the gameplay is boring. Most sections of the "Mario Adventure" place bring the player some interesting jumps and obstacles that differ from the mainstream "jump over this piece of oddly placed red brick" (although it does contain a section of this). There are, however, some major exceptions to this rule. For one, the mazes in the game takes the great gameplay and atmosphere, throws it on the ground, stomps on it, and burns it with a blowtorch. In these sections, you are essentially trapped in a monotone colored room and forced to run around randomly.

Typical maze, note the monotone colors.
Another section that is inferior to the rest of the game is the Mariocart world. The atmosphere here is possibly one of the best, with the track surrounded by stars and rainbows. However, as cool as the concept sounds, it was one of the poorest and most neglected section, right after the mazes. The carts had welding problems and they used default "WASD" car seats, which meant the car was a nightmare to handle and jumps were nigh on impossible. It would have been better to just cut this section along with the mazes out of the product in the first place.

Great concept, however, gameplay is terrible

With all that said, the game is still a well made game with unique atmospheric content rarely attempted by other makers of obbys. "Mario Adventure" is just and example of a carefully done, atmospheric, and interesting obstacle course that differs from the usual.

Different jumps keep the player on his toes
(trying out new rating with just one score, as games are supposed to be all-in-compassing.)
 Verdict:
8/10 OVERALL
Great, must try.
