Winners of the 2014 RN Egg Contest!

As we step ever nearer to the completion and launch of the RN Egg Hunt 2014, the anticipation for the event grows! We will be revealing more and more about the hunt over the coming days, but what we can tell you now is who won our retexturing contest we have held over the last month! There were a number of fantastic entries this year and we believe the competition has been far tighter this year. It was a hard decision choosing the winning three entries, but we also have a number of runner-ups who may or may not feature in the hunt depending on development timings and the demands of the hunters!

Eggcentric Retextures Contest Winners!

A long time ago in a galaxy far away, I launched an egg retexture contest for the Roblox News Egg Hunt. Now some of you may be wondering why has this post taken so long; and I have a couple reasons to offer in answer to this.

1. The egg hunt was delayed a few weeks as our lead programmaer TechTeam911 was busy with a very important exam and he wanted to release the game when it had reached the highest quality. This meant the contest winners could not be announced earlier. 
2. I too have also been extremely busy recently with revision for my 9 exams this summer, so I have been unable to post regularly to RN.

However, that's enough excuses for one day: it's time to reveal the winners of the Eggcentrix Retextures! As always, the quality of the retextures were top notch and it was difficult to narrow it down to 3 winners, but a decision was finally made! The entries chosen provided a careful balance of colour, design and creativity which is paramount when retexturing. The winners are as follows:

1st Place - Demons Heart Egg by McVisibility 

Boasting a menacing colour scheme and intriguing egg design, this entry screams flare. The frosted glass style pattern on this Fabergé egg paired with the detailed shading makes for an effective aesthetic combination. The colour of the base blending well with the main design adds a nice finishing touch. 

2nd Place - Hexagon Egg by mew1226

This entry features a brilliant colour scheme coupled with a detailed, eggcentric design. Making up the overall texture of the egg, the hexagons add a huge amount to this entry. The six pointed star on the front of the design adds real dimension to the egg.

3rd Place - Weaved  Fabergé Egg by rebellion666

Featuring an excellent weaved design and great colour mapping, the Weaved Fabergé Egg boasts originality. The weaving looks incredibly realistic with a high level of detail, with the colours ading feel of directional lighting to the design. 

So, there are our winners! A massive thank you is owed to everyone for their patience in waiting for the results and to everyone who entered in their egg retextures! There were many fantastic designs with several runners up to the winners!

 The winners will be implemented into the Roblox News Egg Hunt 2013 with a unique ability created by the devious mind of TechTeam911. Each egg will come complete with a cool looking badge and prestige as these will be the rarest eggs available!

Luck O' the Textures Contest Winners!

St.Patrick's has now passed and celebrations once filling the streets of Ireland are now over. However luck is still in the air with several great St.Patrick's day themed retextures making their way into the contest set! It is now the moment you've all been waiting for: announcing the winners of the Roblox News St.Patrick's day 2013 contest: Luck O' the Textures! Despite the contest being launched at quite short notice, there were some really creative and imaginative entries. Each entry represented the feel of St.Patrick's day extremely well, choosing relevant colour schemes and designs to suit the nature of the day. Once again, it proved more difficult than expected to narrow down to just three winners and I'd like to congratulate everyone who entered as the quality was visibly astounding.

So without further do, here are the winners of  Roblox News St.Patrick's 2013 contest: Luck O' the Textures:

1st Place - Phantom of the Irish by rebellion666

Using an excellent thumbnail image to fully showcase the detail of this retexture, rebellion has managed produced a fine work of art. I feel that he used the perfect mesh1, well placing the clovers on the texture to form a pattern around the eye-hole of the mask. The clovers are extremely detailed, with a balanced colour scheme throughout the retexture to help them blend, giving the finished product an authentic appearance .What strikes me most about this entry is that it doesn't look like a retexture.


2nd Place - Shamrock Warrior by zerois


Boasting a terrific colour scheme that really caught my eye, this retexture fits in perfectly with the St.Patrick's Day theme of the contest. The black and green provides a real contrast in colour which that helps flesh out the detail found on the retexture. Highlighted with a lighter shades of green which really adds another layer of detail, the mouthguard looks beautiful offset against the top op the helmet. The clovers are also expertly placed on the entry and do not distract from the overall design.


3rd Place - Goldvisionary Diver by DarkGenex


With this entry, DarkGenex makes excellent use of an unusual hat mesh - I have never seen a retexture quite like it! While the neon green colour scheme remains loyal to the basic roots of St.Patrick's day retextures, the gold that can be seen reflecting in the lens is far more adventurous with an authentic texture and shine to the material. This paired with beams of light cascading off the lens and the drum underneath with the yellow and green colour scheme makes this retexture stand out from the crowd!

Runners Up!

Saint Patrick's Casual Wear by Sporeman15

The main texture of this entry is comprised from a great, balanced colour scheme. The gold compliments the dark green well and suggests and shows that gold can be found at the end of the rainbow! The clovers engraved into the pins situated on the side of the retexture and the detailed green leaves on the side add another level of authenticty to the entry.

O' Malley's Worn hat by RayMan36 

Sporting a simple green texture, with a collection of St.Patrick's day themed enamel pinks: this retexture boasts creativity at it's finest! The pin images are well selected and placed on this entry and would suit any Irish patriot!

Once again I'd like to thank everyone who took time to enter our retexture contest. The entries were extremely varied this time around, with each retexture having a unique design.

Rosy Retextures Contest Winners!

Valentine's day has passed, and lovers have exchanged gifts at candlelit dinners. However, love is still in the air and it is time for the contest winners to be announced. First of all, I'd like to congratulate all the entries on their continued ability to surprise me with their creativity. Each entry represented Valentine's day perfectly. It was extremely difficult to narrow the entries down to just three winners. Nevertheless I did come to an eventual decision with the three retextures that I believe boasted the most skilled artists.


So without further ado, here are the winners of the Valentine's 2013 Rosy Retextures contest. *jazz hands*

1st Place - Valentine's Fedora by DarkGenex

Sporting a detailed pinkish-red background and excellently placed hearts this retexture really is outstanding! The colours are well suited for the theme of the contest and are not too pink. I feel the silver belt really brings out the flare in the entry, causing a contrast of different colours and tones. The silver metallic lining of this belt  is well formulated and looks extremely authentic. All of this comes together to make a truly remarkable hat.

2nd Place - Heart Controller by rebellion666

Judging from looking at the original hat, you can really tell that the creator has put a lot of thought and originality to this hat to make it his own. The way that they took such a simple hat, and effectively placed different textures on the rim and the top, makes it unique, especially with the metal plate at the centre with the shading and the aesthetically brilliant hearts. I feel that even though the colours are quite limited, together, they really help the design to stand out more. I love the fact that he has taken something so simple and made it his own, which is why I given this hat the 2nd place it so truly deserves.

3rd Place - 8-Bit Heart Tie by NonstopEpic 

The 8-Bit Heart Tie makes use of the ever popular retro graphics theme complete with a classic heart image found in many RPGs. The pink squares placed diagonally across the front of the tie add for an effective background gradually getting darker towards the heart. The colours fit the atmosphere of Valentine's Day well and the red is a welcome addition to offset the bright pink. Another great entry made by our very own  fabulous Catalog Manager - NonsstopEpic!

Runners Up!

Cupid's Bowtie - by stickers000

With a rich velvet-like appearance and symbols that represent the theme of the contest, this entry would appeal to any Valentine. It was also published as an official ROBLOX hat, with it being renamed; XOXO Bowtie.

Hearts to one - by rebellion666

Another brilliant cap produced by rebellion. With graffiti style hearts painted on the front and streaked texture in the background, this entry proves itself to have a fantastic design.







I would like to thank each and every one of you who entered this retexturing contest. The quality of the entries was extremely high as per usual and I had to employ a second adjudicator - my other half, in order to make the final decision on the three winners and to help write the post!

Frozen Retextures Contest Winners!

Yes, it's the moment you've all been waiting for; the announcement of the three winners of the Roblox News Frozen Retextures contest! Before we get started I'd just like to say that all the entries that were sent in had substance and originality to them, and that it was difficult for me as always to narrow it down to just three winners.

I did eventually come to a decision, and I think you'll agree that these are the most deserving entries in the contest:

1st Place - Ice Dragon Helmet By Blobmista4

Blobmista4's entry was the winner of the Frozen Retextures contest! The model make use of excellent colour contrast between the dark purple and light blue. The light blue eyes and plume are excellent highlights to the hat adding to it's appeal signifying the cold hearted nature of the warrior adorning the helm. This paired with the purple armored shell of the helmet, the white ominous glow shining off the rim above the eyes and finally the detailed teeth turn this entry into a great feat. 

2nd Place - The Winter Wizard By NonstopEpic

NonstopEpic's entry was particular creative in fusing snowflake images with a purple frozen texture underneath. They combine to make a very effective result; an entry with impressive aesthetics as well as being original. The snowflakes on the centre of the hat almost make the retexture look as if it is sparkling in a clear, crisp winter's day. 

3rd Place - Blizzard Baseball Cap By DangerousMonkey

DangerousMonkey decided to choose to use a classic mesh in order create his frozen entry, and it certainly delivers. With a clever transition between new and old, the Blizzard Baseball Cap brings a fresh new feel to a familiar design: giving it a new colour scheme and integrating a frozen stitch texture over the top of the original design. Simple, but very effective.

All three winners will be receiving a model trophy for bragging rights, and their entries will be sent to admins to be perhaps turned into real hats!

Spooky Retextures 2012 Contest Winners!

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who sent in entries to us. It was extremely difficult to pick to the winners as there were so many great quality entries! After much deliberation however, IBarrageI and I (arbirator) picked three winners and 2 runners up listed below:

1st Place - Exorsus Prime king of the Pumpkins

Exorsus Prime king of the Pumpkins is the winning entry of the Spooky Retextures 2010 Contest! The retexture was created by Turtwigz. The design is made up of a very detailed hood with great shading and lightning shapes. There is also an interesting design on the face area, with glowing orange eyes and scratches/scars on the interior; Exorsus is a very spooky retexture indeed and a extremely suited winner! Turtwigz will receive a trophy and R$500 prize.

2nd Place -  The Messor Warrior

The Messor Warrior is the second placed entry in the Spooky Retextures 2012 Contest! This entry created by DarkGenex sports a highly detailed texture with an emerald-like appearance. The eerie red eyes are placed well on the inside of the helm giving it a demon-like feel. DarkGenex will receive a trophy for his efforts.

3rd Place - Halloween Bandit 

The Halloween Bandit is the third placed entry in the Spooky Retextures 2012 Contest! This entry was created by NARHAR. This retexture employs the use of an effective, simple colour scheme with a detailed pumpkin shaded region with a gradient filled mouth area. A very appealing retexture. NARHAR will also receive a trophy for his efforts. 

Runners Up!

These two entries although not making it to the final three, showed true flare and creatly and thus deserve an honourable mention:

Viridiwrath: The Molded Onee

This retexture by twintowers4u92 makes use of a good colour scheme smooth texture. The slit like eyes add an extra spooky feel to the entry.

The Crown of the Overseer Wizard



Linking with the recent Overseer items released, NonstopEpic (one of our very own staff) has created a real aesthetically pleasing retexture. It's simple recolour of green and added 'Overseer' eyeballs are perfect for any Halloween occasion!

Eggstravagant Retextures Contest Winners!

Easter has long since passed, but the Roblox News Egg Hunt is still running! The three winning eggs were used in the hunt and all had different scripted behaviour.

Here are the winners:

The Burning Egg of Dragonkind - By mikemaximum33

I really liked this retexture because it looks like lava flowing all over the egg with suiting colour all mixed it one and a dark base. It really suited the title of 'Dragonkind'. In the egg hunt, this egg explodes violently after the player touches it and kills them instantly.

Chocolate Button Egg - By hammer124

This egg retexture is very simple, but highly effective. The shades buttons look great situated on the brown background and look extremely realistic. A very chocolately egg! When the player touches this egg, they turn into a chocolate bunny and have a reduced walkspeed.

Holey Egg of Olympics - By hammer124

As the London 2012 Olympics are fast approaching, I thought it would very fitting to include a Olympic themed egg. The rings are nicely shaded and coloured and suit the theme well. In order for a player to collect this egg, they have to jump through 3 red rings which turned green as jumped through. Once all rings were green the egg dropped at the end, free for the player to collect.

The Roblox News Egg Hunt was a great success this year and I thank everyone who was involved; be it playing the game or working on the project. We will definitely be holding another next year!

The hunt is running until the 27th of April which is when the account: RNEggHunt loses BC, so if you're planning on getting all the badges; hurry!

Shamrockin' Retextures Contest Winner!

St.Patrick's day is tomorrow, and Brighteyes has taken a load of retextures to publish throughout the day! There were dozens of great entries and even making it to our featured entries post deserves a round of applause. However, there can only be two winners!

Personally, I really liked this entry, as it is both simple but visually elegant. With it's dark shade of green, suiting buckle and contrasting orange flower it hosts a multitude of colours which blend extremely well together!

I also was very fond of this entry; it is different to the kind of hats users usually retexture and has a sense of originality that some retextures do not. The neon green colour scheme suits the texture well and the added shamrock, pot of gold and text really complete the retexture.

Winter Building Contest 2011 Winners!

Yes, the time has come to announce the winners of this year's contest. There weren't many entries, but there were enough to announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. This Winter contest was judged by Refreshingwater and Banjobug, both of which are the Place Reviewers, as you all should know by now. So, here they are, the winners of the Winter Building Contest 2011!

In first place we have Skatore Cabin. The reason we chose this place was because it looked very well built and looked very cool. The winner's name is SuperSkateboy. The creator of this place will get a popular place of their choice reviewed by Banjobug and Refreshingwater. Unfortunately, there were some places that were BC Only and some were removed from the person's inventory. I strictly stated that "all entries must be playable by EVERYONE", which some of you ignored and did that anyway. There was one that was obviously free modeled and wont be named here.

So, I removed all of those entries from the email and threw them into the trash. So, finally, there were only 4 entries. That is not what we wanted.

We might not even do another building contest because nobody entered. You had two weeks and people did enter but many did not follow the rules.

Spooky Retextures 2011 Winner: LiLDJX!

LiLDJX has won the Roblox News Halloween Retexture Contest with his entry: 'Masked Hood of Halloween'.

This entry particularly stood out to me as being one the most creative entries that was entered, as well as it having a brilliant design and fitting colours. The hood really brings out the sense of Halloween with the black and yellow colour scheme and the number of bats situated on top; really bringing out that spooky feel!

LiLDJX is an accomplished Retexturer now and I think many budding graphic designers could learn thing or two from his amazing work.

So, as the winner of the contest, he deserves a suiting prize. Earlier on in the contest Brighteyes said she would view any entries that I sent her that particularly stood out to me, I sent her the 8 entries including this one. This is the one she took and has already being uploaded as a texture by ROBLOX.

LiLDJX's prize is having his entry published as a real hat to the Catalog!

Rally Retexture Contest winner!

Hey guys! This contest was hard to judge for DeltaForce96, a lot of the entries were caps and ties, but we managed it down to one winner! The winning entry was made by benningtonguy, it was a simple design, with the rally logo, nice colour scheme and matching flag. There was obviously some effort put into this, and that's why it was chosen. There were other interesting entries however, like the TV with the ROBLOX Rally logo in it, that was cool. However, I did not judge the contest!
