Hat Review: Studio Superstar

Hey guys! As some of you may have noticed, those that were able to successfully obtain all 6 Studio Eggs from this year's Egg Hunt were awarded a super-special-fudge-coated-deliociously-awesome hat (alright, maybe it wasn't fudge coated, but it's still quite awesome) today. I've got to say, this was quite a surprise for me, but it was a pleasant one. So, without further ado, let's get down to the review.

Mesh: The mesh of the Studio Superstar follows the pattern of all of this year's 8-bit eggs, but goes a step further and gives us an 8-bit top hat! Personally, I love top hats, and this one just gives me even more of a reason to do so. Interesting idea, and well-executed, too. 9/10.

Appearance: The Studio Superstar heavily resembles the Eggcellent Builder Egg, which was widely considered the easiest Studio Egg to get. The colors are identical, as is the Studio logo featured on the front of the hat. The shading is superb, and while the hat itself is simple, it's still amazing. 9/10.

Pricing: You received the Studio Superstar top hat for free if you were able to get all 6 Studio Eggs, which actually wasn't quite a hard task (thanks to all the hints people left in the forums). It's a great accessory for all players alike, and, in my opinion, one of the better hats ROBLOX has released in a while. 9/10.

Overall: 9/10.

Gear Review: Badblox Hatchling

Today I decided to do a review on one of our items that came from the Egg of Duty (featuring in the 2013 Egg Hunt) called the Badblox Hatchling. Hatching onthe 4/4/2013, this item is extremely common, the egg of duty egg was awarded 194878 times; meaning that 194878 people own the gear.

For those of you who read my review about the duck gear, this is going to be déjà vu, the review will be very similar due to the fact that the scripts are exactly same. For those of you who missed my other review, I hope you enjoy this one!

Abilities: 7/10
This chick can’t do anything really…. It is useless in combat but it’s a gear designed for entertainment, causing no damage or destruction. When you click with the hatchling selected, seven Rambo chicks follow your every you move until your character is KO'd, then they disappear. When they are spawned, a marching sounds can be heard which I believe is a cute little addition. This gear has little purpose and is not a very good egg item.

Appearance: 7/10
The texture consists of yellow fur and a green bandanna and war-paint. When you wear it on your avatar it just shows a little yellow chick in the avatar’s hand, appearing to quite small. This item is not bad at all, but it's not great. I personally liked the egg itself more than what it hatched into.

Value for money:  10/10
Some people were disappointed with what hatched from the Egg of Duty, others rejoiced in the news that had received a cute gear item. While the item is obviously not perfect, it was obtained from a free to collect egg hat and so I cannot complain about it's great value for money.

Overall: 6/10
This gear is not a bad gear for a social item, but I wished a new script had been written for it, the recycling of the script makes the gear drop points in terms of originality. However, you cannot really argue with an item that was free in the first place - I just wished you could keep the original egg as well as the hatched item.

Hat Review: Speech Bubble

Speech Bubble
Speech Bubble- Hatched TL;DR Egg

This Speech Bubble hat hatched from the TL;DR Egg, an egg you could obtain from clicking an ad on the site during the 2013 ROBLOX Egg Hunt. It's a cartoon-style 3D Speech Bubble that floats next to your head. It's really plain and lacks detail, but there really isn't much detail you could put into something as simple as a speech bubble.

Texture 8/10
The texture is simple, with the plain colour resembling a cartoon bubble found in a comic strip. The only problem I have with the texture is the shiny parts of the outline which are added to a lot of new ROBLOX items which are in my opinion, unneeded. These gives the impression that the speech bubble has been scratched or is worn in some way. Pure block colours like the classic Question Mark hat would have been more appropriate. An improvement to the texture would be adding text to the bubble - something like 'Noob' or 'Haxxor' would have added comical value to this hat.

Mesh 9/10
While the mesh is simple in design, it resembles a speech bubble very well. With a sharp circular design and well placed comma it is perfect for all your comic book needs. The raised outline of the bubble is a nice finishing touch. The mesh of this hat is near perfect

Pricing 10/10
While it was a little harder for NBC players to find as they had to battle numerous offsite ads, it was pretty much a freebie to all. Can't complain about anything that is free!

Overall 9/10
With both a simple and effective mesh and texture, and being a freebie to obtain the Speech Bubble thoroughly deserves this high score. My only main complaint (which is unrelated to the hat's quality), is the fact that you do not keep the egg that the item hatches out of. This, in my opinion, is a far better way of pleasing players - if they don't like the egg they get an extra item to use, and equally if they don't like the hatched item they can wear the egg. Egg hatching occurring like Christmas gifts would be awesome.

Hat Review: Alien Hatchling

Alien Hatchling

Alien Hatchling

With the egg hunt coming to a close in only 2 days, the mods are starting to discontinue eggs and one has even hatched already!

The Eggtraterrestrial egg hatched into this disturbing hat, the Alien Hatchling. Unfortunately, when the eggs hatch you apparently lose the egg in exchange for the prize. Bad news for those who enjoy wearing their eggs for show.

Mesh: 6/10
The mesh, although very disturbing and not very kid-friendly, looks pretty cool. It's a squishy blue-green bulb of...alien flesh, I suppose, held by 4 claws with 3 claws coming out of the back of it. It latches onto your ROBLOXians face and probably makes it difficult to get around. Many robloxians joke about the fact that it looks like Squidward's nose.

Texture: 10/10
The texture looks very detailed. There are veins on the bulbous part of the hatchling, and the skin looks sort of like frog skin. I like how they made the hatchling the same color as the egg giving it an authentic and consitent style.

Overall: 8/10
Although very disturbing-looking, the Alien Hatchling does look pretty cool and the texturing was done nicely. And it does go with the theme of the egg, which is good.

ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013 Guide!

Greetings fellow egg hoarders! Today I bring you a comprehensive eggsponential guide of every egg that is currently available within the ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013, which was beautifully crafted by the ROBLOX content team. The spawn areas, special abilities and tips to obtaining each egg will be detailed below along with important information about the map. (I promise - no more egg puns).

HUNT _Image

The Egg Hunt is a game published by the staff account named 'Games'; being joint-created by Tarabyte, Sorcus, Stickmasterluke and Brighteyes to name a few. The place has been visited a total of 1,367,732 times and has experienced 17,000 concurrent players making it easily the most popular ROBLOX event EVER. There are a total of 24 eggs that can currently be collected by players and all can be worn as hats. As of writing there are three unreleased badges which are all likely to be eggs that can be only be obtained on certain days of the hunt. These exclusive eggs will be added to the guide as the hunt progresses.

Egg Hunt Map

So without further ado, here is the ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013 guide:
(use CTRL-F to find the specific egg you are looking for)

                       Watermelon
WatermelonThis egg spawns in the grassland area very close to the ring of teleporters. It is a common egg with several appearing on the map at once and can be easily obtained with the player simply walking over it. Once the egg is collected, pieces of melon scatter around the player's feet - a juicy touch.

Gear Review: Faberge Egg Cloner

As most of you know already, ROBLOX's annual Egg Hunt has begun, which, of course, resulted in the usual mayhem that comes with large-scale events such as this one. To make your egg-hunting a tad easier, ROBLOX created three gear items specifically for this year's egg hunt, one of which we'll be looking at today. So, without further ado, let's get down to the review!

Abilities/Effects: The Faberge Cloner does exactly what it says on the tin. If you happen to be in one of the few servers in which a Fabergé Egg is present, there's a nearly 100% chance you'll get the egg, due to this gear's special ability. If anyone in the server finds the Fabergé Egg, and you own this item, you'll receive an exact copy of the egg yourself. Seeing as less than 1% of those who've played this year's egg hunt have a Fabergé Egg of any sort, I'd find that to be quite a useful little trick. 9/10.

Appearance: The Cloner itself is rather large, but it does sit in one's avatar's hands quite nicely. It's been made to resemble half of an easter egg, which fits. What appears to be some sort of high-tech scanning device resides where there would normally be the egg-yolk and egg-white, though I find that those colors clash with the brightly-colored back. 8/10.

Pricing: The Faberge Cloner hit the Catalog at a price of 1,000 ROBUX, making it the most expensive of the 2013 Egg Hunt-related items. However, seeing as once Fabergé Eggs go limited they sell for around 1,000 ROBUX alone, I can't say that having a cloner would be a horrible investment. This is assuming though, that one is able to locate servers with the Faberge Eggs which, by itself, is quite a difficult task. 7/10.

Overall: 8/10.

Retexture Reviews: Two Winning Eggs

Today I'd like to talk about two amazing eggs that won the egg contests for the 2013 Egg hunt. Every year, Roblox makes a egg hunt to celebrate Easter. Each egg is either common or rare, or just plain hard to get. This year, Roblox asked their community to make eggs for the 2013 Egg Hunt. They decided to pick three Faberge eggs and three standard eggs. Today I'll be talking about one egg from both Faberge and standard eggs.

Fruity Egg of the Watermelon
The first eggs is the Fruity Egg of the Watermelon. This egg was made by the user TheEasterZombie. His egg is pure genius, and absolute creativity. The way the texture fits with the egg is remarkable. The egg shows some dimension with one side being bright, and the other dark, The egg is clearly a nice addition to the 2013 Egg Hunt, and I can't wait to get. Maybe you'll need a sword to get it, who knows! Overall, this egg is what creativity stands for, and it is original.

Overall: 9/10

Purple faberge egg of royalty ([Published])

The second egg I'd like to talk about is the Purple Faberge Egg of Royalty. This egg was made by the user nintendocpu. This is egg is a normal Faberge egg, however it has a new grid design. Instead of the average Faberge egg's gold grid, this one is a gold and green grid on a purple dye. All though this isn't an original Faberge egg, it's still a good looking egg. It deserves it spot in the top three of Faberge eggs.

Overall:8.5/10

Thanks for stopping by!

Sincerely,
Trevor

Roblox News Easter Contest: Eggcentric Retextures!

Greetings fellow egg hoarders of ROBLOXia! As you most of you are well aware, the ROBLOX team are hosting their (now) annual Easter Egg Hunt in which eggs fall from the sky in a set map and players scurry around the map to collect them to add to their inventories. In parallel to this fantastic event, Roblox News will also be running an Egg Hunt of our own! There will be a huge variety of eggs that drop in the map which will entail hours of enjoyment for fans and casual players alike.

That is where you come in! As of now, we have a selection of eggs we'd like to use in our hunt, but we would like a few more to add to our collection. The top entries in the Eggcellent Retextures contest will be be featured in the Roblox News Egg Hunt 2013 and will be scripted by our genius programmer: Zinc707! These eggs will drop in-game and will award badges to players who manage (without dying horribly) to obtain them.

The egg retextures can be of any theme or design, and you can use any egg mesh ever uploaded! Creativity is key in this contest as there are already hundreds of egg retextures previously made, and of course; dozens of official egg hats. Think outside the box with your entry, and try to produce something symbolises Easter - perhaps creating a classical, decorative egg such as the examples to the right. Eggs that represent Roblox News would also make an excellent addition to Easter Egg Hunt game - pictures of staff members or the RN logo would look great! The winning entries to our previous Easter contest can be found here.

If you'd like to enter the contest, simply:

1.) Create your retexture on ROBLOX and upload it as a model and give it a suiting title. If you are new retexturing, check out this helpful guide. In the model's description insert the tags: 'Eggcentric Retextures 2013', 'RN Egg Hunt Contest Entry'.

2.) Private message RNEggHunt on ROBLOX your entry. Title your message 'Eggcentric Retextures 2013' and include a link to your entry in the main message. You can send up to 3 entries, and can be sent in the same or different PMs.. The eggtastic entries will then all be added to this set for everyone to view!

3) From there they will be judged by myself (arbirator), and IBarrrageI. The top entries will be featured in the Roblox News Egg Hunt 2013, will receive a model trophy each, and finally will be featured on the blog for thousands to see!

The entry deadline is the 28th March 11:59 PM PST.

Thanks for reading, and good luck to all entrants!

ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013!

As Easter fast approaches, so do the rumors of eggs, bunnies and of course; the infamous Easter zombies (No, not Martin). I'm sure you are all eagerly awaiting the confirmation of these said rumors, and so it gives me great pleasure in announcing that there indeed will be an official ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013! This was announced by various admins on twitter and on the ever useful; ROBLOX Forums.

Before we delve into the juicy bits of information and evidence, let us first reminisce about the ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2012!

ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2012

Being the third egg hunt ROBLOX has hosted, it had an awful lot to live up to - but it certainly delivered (For the most part). There were a huge quantity of eggs this year; with a total of 24 eggs available to be collected in the 2012 Egg Hunt - ROBLOX game, and a bonus egg only found in the Welcome to Stoogeville promotion level. This was the largest amount of egg trophies to feature in any of ROBLOX's egg hunts ever. Not a bad start!

2012 Egg Hunt - ROBLOXThe main difference between this Easter event and the two before it was the format the hunt took. In 2012 the eggs only 'dropped' in the two official maps created by ROBLOX, opposed to the site-wide hunts of 2008 and 2010. While some were opposed to this idea, many embraced for not following suite of its predecessors. They were overjoyed to hear the news that eggs would not drop in every game on ROBLOX, causing untold chaos to thousands of players. Now this may have been a little unfair, but there is an element of truth in their argument; the 2010 egg hunt did effectively bring the site to a halt and scheduled egg drops were significantly delayed. On the contrary, everyone loved it - it was great to pick up eggs that were rolling around in your favorite FPS or during a clan based raid.

Another differential factor is that both the egg meshes themselves, and their abilities were much more varied than previous years. There were regular eggs, Fabergé eggs, sugar eggs, vampire eggs, moustache eggs and finally vault eggs. Some eggs flew around, some impacted against the ground encased inside a red-hot meteorite, some even fiendishly destroyed other eggs preventing eager ROBLOXians from obtaining them.

Issues

However, with every great ROBLOX event there are always likely to be some issues. Indeed with the 2012 Egg Hunt, this was the case with there being one major problem; hackers. Due to the game using the ROBLOX in-game badge system to award eggs as hats to your inventory, this could be used as a tool to exploit the game. Exploiters were able to set up a script that awarded every single badge in the game to players as soon as they entered the server. This was a huge issue for the ROBLOX developers, and so they attempted to shut these rogue servers down. There have been various security upgrades to the ROBLOX engine in recent times, and so I am hoping that this problem does reoccur in the 2013 hunt.

The second issue that was easily identifiable was the lack of texture on some of the eggs. The Elevated Egg of the Eyrie for instance, is made up of one colour, with only a slight hint of a texture on the back of the hat. While the amount of eggs was great, I would have preferred to have a few less and have higher quality textures overall. This was not always the case, of course, as some eggs looked gorgeous such as the Sword Fights on the Heights Sugar Egg, boasting a crisp, detailed texture with some nice little additions to the mesh.

ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013

At last! Let us talk about the upcoming egg hunt which will be live in less than a months time!

As many readers may already know, ROBLOX launched a egg retexturing contest last week. It was announced by Visual Artist tarabyte in this thread on the ROBLOX Contest forum last week. The contest was also announced in a blog post from the official ROBLOX Blog. There have been hundreds of entries submitted so far, and the contest still has another 12 days to go until the deadline of the 20th March. If you are interested in retexturing eggs to be used in the official ROBLOX Egg Hunt 2013, submit your creations on this poll.

This subsequently confirms that the ROBLOX staff will be hosting their fourth egg hunt this Easter!

In regards to the format the egg hunt will take, I currently do not know. I reached out for a comment from tarabyte, but she stated that they can't reveal any of their plans for the upcoming hunt. If I were a gambling man, I'd place my bets on it being in an official staff made game again. I hope I am proved wrong however, as I did enjoy the site-wide hunt a little more than the 2012 one. We shall have to wait and see!

And finally, here are some egg entries that I feel have a good chance at winning the retexturing contest:
Bejewled Fabergé Egg of KORBLOXian Treasure

Egg of tides
Egg of Tides - By polfy99

Sapphire faberge' egg
Saphire Fabergé Egg - By nitendocpu

Thanks,
