Thank You Shedletsky!

From all of us at the Roblox News team, and everyone on ROBLOX, we thank you. You have inspired many young minds and adult minds alike, and have helped us all get to where we are today. You have helped Roblox progress for the past 8 years and I am thrilled to have had the chance to have met you, even if only for brief periods of time.

When I asked these people how you inspired them, I got these responses, and I am sure everyone agrees with them!

Exclusive BLOXcon London Interview: Matt Dusek!

BLOXcon London logoAs most of you already know, BLOXcon London took place last Saturday at the RAF Museum Hendon. It was an absolute blast, being both thoroughly enjoyable but also a valuable experience for myself, but also the three Roblox News staff that attended. It was fantastic meeting the staff that were behind the game we all grew to love, and was fascinating talking to them about their passions. I will fully describe my BLOXcon London experience right here on Roblox News in a post later on this week, but today I bring you something very special indeed.

Matt DusekDuring my time at BLOXcon, I managed to speak to many avid ROBLOX users and staff. One of those individuals was Matt Dusek, who some of you might know as the Technical Director at ROBLOX. I seized the opportunity to interview Matt about his job and current projects on the website. You can view the interview below; with subtitles for both quiet audio and important nuggets of information. Sadly the last minute of the interview was cut off due to memory issues with my recording device, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the rest of the exclusive footage!

Thanks for reading and watching! Look out for more BLOXcon London posts in the next few days!

Place Review: ROBLOX Battle by Games

Explosions! Swords! Bouncy balls! This is exactly what the content team calls "weapons of destruction," in their new game ROBLOX Battle. They deliver with a lot of action and fun with this new game. This was created with an intent to create excitement and entertainment, and not to promote a new movie or TV show.

We enter this place with pride and hopes for a fun and exciting time. At first, I am forced to be in spectate mode without prior warning or warning at the time. There's no text in the middle or anything that states "Now Spectating." Which allows for confusion and despair. I am forced to wait two rounds in order to play this game, with again no warning or guide on how to play. After the second round ended (a round of King of the Hill), I got to play a round of Juggernaut. This round was filled with action packed excellence and excitement. There are gigantic pillars floating in the air on this map, every so often, they would fall down and break the floor beneath you. So watch your step! I'm assuming that my only complaint about this juggernaut mode is that there is no direction as to where the juggernaut is, only an arrow pointing down. I'd suggest add something like this:
Midnight Club 2 ScreenshotThe arrow on the side guides you through the city to your next checkpoint.

Adding the above would make the game a lot more better. Anyway, moving on. I didn't get a chance to play the game as much as I'd hoped, but did in fact get an eye full of what was going on within. A fun game overall and action packed.

The Verdict
Scripting: 10/10. They're pros.
Tools: 10/10. All tools necessary to have fun are provided.
Building: 9.5/10. Decent.
Community Enjoyment: 10/10. Everyone enjoys this place.
Originality: 5.9/10. I've seen dozens battle places before, as original? Eh, kinda.
Deals with Problems: 10/10. No problems, yet?
Reviewer's Experience with Lag: 9.9/10. It was my PC, no worries.
Difficulty: Medium.
Reviewer's Enjoyment: 10/10. Even playing it for 5 minutes is fun.
Reviewer's Recommendation: Highly.
Thumbnail's Review: 10/10. They're pros.
Scenery: 10/10. Eerie and nice at the same time.

Overall: 9.9/10. Great game overall, fun to play and very action packed. Would recommend to the fans of the action genre. Like I've said, add the arrow guiding you to your objective.

That is it for me, thank you for reading, and have a nice day!

Telamon's name change!

Many of you will slate this as 'old news', but since there has been no real official announcement or forum post; I just wanted to let you guys know!

Telamon has changed his username to Shedletsky - which is his surname and also his username for his twitter account. This will make it easier for users to find him on twitter as now both his ROBLOX and twitter usernames are the same.

It is not strictly true however, that his username was changed; it was actually swapped with his alternate account which was previously called Shedletsky, but which is now called Telamon.

Some old users may dislike this change as they have been used to John Shedletsky being known simply as 'Telamon'. However, it has standardised his username which from his point of view is a positive thing because more ROBLOX users can follow him on twitter and give him their feedback on all things ROBLOX.

Happy Birthday David Baszucki!

Today is David Baszucki's Birthday. David, AKA Builderman is the founder and CEO of the ROBLOX Corporation. From all the Roblox News Staff and me, I'd like to wish him a very Happy Birthday!

Without David we wouldn't have ROBLOX, we wouldn't have the wonderful site we love, we wouldn't have our creative sandbox, I wouldn't have met any of the great users I am now good friends with and there wouldn't be Roblox News!

David Baszucki has recently made a new twitter account @DavidBaszucki, follow him right away!

Phone Interview with ROBLOX!

7:30 pm GMT I had my phone interview with four members of the ROBLOX team! I talked to Brighteyes, ReeseMcBlox, ChelBM and another intern, who's username I didn't manage to catch. We talked about many things including certain staff member's jobs and what they do on ROBLOX.

Did you know Brighteyes doesn't actually make most of the hats and that some freelance artists contribute to the ROBLOX Catalog?

And did you know that the ROBLOX content team is hard at work making the gifts for Christmas?

It was great talking to the ROBLOX team and meeting the people I often talk to on Twitter. It was interesting to hear all sorts of things about the game and what they are working on!

FEATURED: Interview with Newtrat

1. What made you become a ROBLOX Intern?
ROBLOX came to my college's career fair this spring. *puts on embarrassed expression* I'd actually never heard of the site before, but it sounded really interesting, so I applied for an open internship without really knowing what it would involve. After an interview with someone whose username I don't know and, later, with Telamon (that was about as fun as you might expect, i.e. really fun), I was lucky enough to get the internship.

2. What do you think of ROBLOX so far?
I really like it! That is, I'm really enjoying both my time spent on the website and my time spent working for ROBLOX. I like my coworkers, I like the people I've met via PM conversations online, and I like coding items that other people can use and enjoy. It's a pretty sweet deal.

3. What do you do for ROBLOX?
Currently I'm coding gear, with great help from Sorcus. Some of the gear I've made (more properly, helped to make) has been released already, and some might not be released for a while. In the next few weeks I might be working on some other projects as well.

4. What is your favorite game?
On ROBLOX... maybe Survive the 90 Disasters, since it's the first game I ever played here... maybe Find the Domos! since the fact that I've only found about half of them still drives me insane. I'm not totally sure. I like most of the games I've played. Otherwise... it generally depends on what kind of mood I'm in. I really enjoyed Spyro the Dragon and Final Fantasy XII, both of which were listed on my semi-official blog interview. But I also really enjoyed (even if I didn't finish all of these): Myst, Kingdom Hearts, Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Donkey Kong Country (one of the sequels), Tiger Woods PGA Tour '05, Super Mario World, RollerCoaster Tycoon, Civilization III/IV, Chessmaster 9, LEGO Rock Raiders, SSX 3, Guitar Hero III, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, all of Eyezmaze's Grow games, almost all of jmtb02's games, Platform Racing 2, Bloons, N, and a ton of other games I'm not thinking about right now. Wow, that was a long answer.

5. Are you going to the ROBLOX Rally? If so please tell us what you will be doing there!
Yes, I'm going! I'm not totally sure what I'll be doing yet, though I guess I have some idea. I know I will be answering questions at some point, either while walking around or as part of some official group, so feel free to say "Hi" and talk to me if you're going!

6. What do you think is is ROBLOX's most important aim
Well... the website says "ROBLOX IS a kid-friendly place on the internet where your children can exercise their creativity in a moderated online environment," but that probably doesn't say too much. My own completely biased and not-at-all-representative-of-ROBLOX-as-a-whole opinion is that ROBLOX's most important aim is to provide a game engine that's flexible enough to allow users to create any game they can imagine, while still being easy enough to use that it's not too intimidating for first-time programmers. This is a biased opinion because I am into programming, so I'd naturally emphasize the programming aspects of ROBLOX over other, almost certainly equally important aspects like the community built on the forums and through PMs, artwork that goes into character personalization and item collections, beautiful architectural marvels, and the like.

7. Who is your favorite intern besides you?
I'm not sure I have a favorite intern. But tarabyte is officially listed as one of my Minions, so I'm going to have to go with her. :)

8. Who is your favorite person at the office (Feel free to pick 1 or more)
Wow. This is a hard question because I don't want to leave anyone out! I think I spend most of my time with HotThoth and Sorcus, so I guess I'd say them if I had to choose. However, I like everyone I've met so far.

9. What do you do in your free-time when your not at ROBLOX?
Depends on the day. I try to do a crossword every day, despite having absolutely no reason to do so. I like playing piano. I enjoy spending time with / talking to / watching movies with my friends. I probably do more interesting things, but I guess I don't remember most of them.

Interview with BrightEyes!

<span class=

BrightEyes is a member of the ROBLOX Team, she works hard every day making items for the catalog and performing many other jobs! BrightEyes leads the Retexture Artists Official Channel!

1) When did you join the ROBLOX Team?

June 2008.

2) What made you want to work for ROBLOX

I have always liked games and decided I wanted to work for a game company. I interviewed with ROBLOX and the people I met were so smart and fun that I knew they would be inspirational to work with. I was also attracted to the variety of the ROBLOX site. Every day there are new top games and new things to do. That keeps things fresh and interesting.

3) What sort of things do you do other than make items for the catalog?

I work on our ROBLOX Cards (launching in new stores, promotions, etc) I also deal with advertising – both placing ROBLOX ads on other sites and having companies place ads on ROBLOX.com.

4) What would you say to someone wanting to start Retexturing? Have you got any tips?

Start simple – maybe with ties or sunglasses. I like things that look professional and cool. Most retextures that are published have interesting color schemes and add a new detail or two to the original. The very best retextures turn the original hat into something totally different- which is not easy to do. The best example of someone doing this right is lolearth. Again – very hard to do… so maybe not for beginners.

5) What hobbies do have outside of work?

I like to play games, go the beach, travel, bake, read, and crochet.

6) What are your favourite games?

My current favorite ROBLOX games are Wordfall, Undead Coming (and variations of it) and AlexNewtron’s Apples 2 Apples. My favorite non-ROBLOX games are dominion, BSG, all Mario Games (particularly MarioKart),and Street Fighter II: Champion Edition (I've got the arcade version of this at my house!).

7) Are there any upcoming updates you can tell us about?

There are so many updates that they’re hard to keep track of. The iPhone team is working on a new version of our app. The client team has some mega awesome features they’re working on and the web team is humming along as usual. I don’t know which features are surprises, so I don’t want to say too much.

8) Out of all the ROBLOX employees, which would you is the most fun to be around in the office? Who cracks the most jokes?

Telamon keeps the whole company laughing. I sit next to Reese and she’s pretty funny too. She’s a bit quieter than Telamon (most people are!) but still hilarious.

9) What sort of things will be at the ROBLOX Rally?

I’m so excited about the Rally! We’ve got a ton of events planned. I’m most interested in getting hat and gear ideas from our users. But there will be events, discussions, and booths with activities. Also it’s at the Exploratorium, which is an awesome museum (even if you don’t come to the Rally, you should make it out to the Exploratorium some day). The museum exhibits and activities will also be open (maybe not the cow eye dissection).

10) What you say is ROBLOX's most important aim?

My personal thoughts about ROBLOX’s mission are that ROBLOX is a place for kids to be creative. We give players the tools to bring their vision to life. We also give kids the tools to discover other kids creative masterpieces (be that games, clothes, decals, or models). I think that’s what we strive to do – help our players make awesome things.

11) And finally, are there any items coming out of Mystery Boxes anytime soon?
